Macbeth Big Idea: Fate
During our time reading Macbeth we have talked some about fate and how it effects the characters of Macbeth. The three witches are the ones who tell Macbeth and Banquo what will happen in the near future and they both want to use this to their advantage. Unfortunately for Banquo, Macbeth wants it more than Banquo and Macbeth ends up on top. Macbeth becomes greedy and starts to kill friends and innocent people even though there is little to no gain in doing this.
The witches however did not tell Macbeth that he will end up dying to the hand of one of his former friends Macduff. The witches tell Macbeth to only fear Macduff as he was a "C section" meaning he is the only one who can kill Macbeth. This play shows how big of an impact fate and fortune can have on even the best of people.

Hi Cody. I looked at the concept of fate as well. It's nice that you pointed out the omission of important information. However, I do think that MacBeth had something to gain by killing Banquo's son. He could keep his throne without worrying about being overthrown by Banquo's line.
ReplyDeleteFate makes its way throughout Macbeth in a prominent way, but I did also notice greed. If Macbeth wasn't greedy, then he may not have killed Duncan. Without greed maybe Macbeth would have become king another way.
